The Road to Damascus

Have you ever wondered what's going on inside a child's brain?

Yeah, about a bijillion times a day.

As some may already know, Margo has a wide collection of stuffed cats. They just pop up from nowhere. The stable now counts: Bébé Minou, Paws, Petit Minou, Long Chat (a garage sale underdoor draft stopper that Margo claimed as her own), Chiot (a puppy refugee with an identity crisis), and of course, the king of queen of Minouravia, Minou and Autre Minou.

Tati Angie bought Minou for Margo to celebrate her birth. Big hit. So big, that we started getting scared that if Minou ever got lost, it would be a crisis of Biblical proportions. Pestilence. Plagues. GST. Pimples on first dates... all that. So we bought a back-up Minou. Somehow, the back-up got into regular circulation, and Margo plainly named him Autre Minou, or Other Kitty.

Except, Margo works in mysterious ways. Mysterious, post-modern ways. And one day, Autre Minou fell off his donkey on the road to Damascus, and Margo Almightly re-christined him... Pintou.

Pintou and Minou's relationship is ambiguous. Sometimes, Pintou is the mama, most times, Minou is. And Margo has started playing them off each other, playing favourites. If Margo takes one to daycare, that means that it's in favour in the Royal Court, and it has Margo's ear. But when we suggest that she bring one over the other while the other is still on the outs, Margo lets us know. "No, I don't like him. He goes over dere, then over dere."

Truth be told, there are physical differences between Minou and Pintou, and I've noticed that Margo switches them up every so often.

Man, what's going on in that kid's head.
