Grandpa Bacca

Margo's Grandpa came for a visit recently. In preparation, we were testing her to see if she could say Grandpa. She can't. Or she won't. Instead, she calls him Bacca. Strange as this may seem, this is actually quite an honour, because her favourite TV show is the Backyardigans, which she calls Back. That would be like me calling my grandfather Starsky or Littlest Hobo. High praise, indeed.

So, Bacca it was, and Bacca it is. Except that Bacca himself couldn't quite keep it straight as to whether he was Grandpa or Bacca or Pépère. Margo seemed pretty easy-going about the identity crisis.

It was a good time, and Margo went from just accepting a third adult in the house to asking for him all the time. Bacca got a hug and a kiss on the second day, and though he didn't buy her ice cream so that he could get his fill of dirty-faced kids, he was able to sneak in a whipped cream episode that, in retrospect, seemed to last for about three hours. Oh, you magical Bacca.

Other highlights include Bacca's legacy... the handmade wooden potty that he bought for Margo at the local farmer's market. Wow, did Margo ever take to that. I'm not sure if she's quite ready, but she's curious, and this thing looks like a throne. The second.... the millisecond that she saw it, her ass was backing into it like a dumptruck going beep, beep, beep.

This brings up an interesting point: though Margo's daycare provider gives us a brief write-up of how Margo's day was, it's impossible to convey everything that is learned or talked about. Though we've never talked to Margo about potties, she was itching to get those diapers off to sit on the throne.

It was also the community garage sale while Bacca was here, and we were lucky enough to pick up some potty books. One of them asked who you will tell when you're ready to go to the potty. The little jerk said "Bacca."

One week. That's all it takes to become the "good cop" to our "bad cops."

So that's Bacca's visit. We had a good time. He got to have a double espresso. Donna's doing fine and looking more and more pregnant with every day. Margo just came off of a three-week period of being an absolute angel, but even now, although she's laughing a lot and is very playful, she is selectively deaf when she wants to be. We often spend our evenings thinking of how lucky we are that she is the way that she is, and so entertaining. She's counting to 10 in English and French, or rather, she has the basics down, but the order is... well... not as important.

That potty is one legacy alright - no wonder she wants to get her butt on there!

Awesome pic of your dad, you and Margo.
