5 months old

Dear Margo,

This past Saturday, we celebrated your 5 month birthday. (If by celebration, we mean $3.99 breakfast at the loon and a haircut for Mommy, and I think we do. These are exciting times, ma fille).

This has been a big month for you - you're no longer a (completely) toothless wonder, you're able to sit for short periods by yourself, you're able to scoot around on the floor by pulling yourself along, and you're able to fall asleep on your own. Good joerb.

You've also developed a bit of an attachment to mommy that can be slightly inconvenient, but deep down feels just a little sweet. You're not overly pleased when I'm not within your sight, which is normal, and your lower lip will protrude slightly before real tears start when someone else (besides Daddy, of course) holds you. I'm hoping this is a phase (not the attachment to your mom, just the crying if I'm not right there).

You had me worried a few weeks ago, what with the waking every two hours, but since starting you on solids, this waking has slowed to about every four hours, which is far more manageable. So far, you've attempted banana, pumpkin puree, apples, and brown rice cereal. We think you have a sweet tooth. Not sure where that came from.

Looking ahead to month six, I wonder what's in store for you? Crawling? Sitting up for longer periods? Your first out of town friend is due to visit in less than a week, which is another first. Dad will turn 33, and Mom and Dad are going on a date to celebrate. J and R have graciously agreed to come and sit with you while Mom and Dad spend their first few hours away from you together. I know that you'll be a peach and will remain sleeping the whole time we're gone, right? (and if not, I know J and R can handle it!)

Your sweet disposition and lovely little face make me smile many times a day. I love you, I love you, I love you. Here's to the sixth month and many more firsts.

Love, Mommy

Well done, ma fille. Sitting up, yoga poses and sleeping on your own. Where did our little baby go"? We are all looking forward to month "six". Girl, things will be flying now.

Just for the record, mommy and daddy aren't the only ones who love you immensely...although, I imagine them to be somewhat biased, but fair, when it comes to you. You have this tendency do pull at those invisible strings one has.

Well, the race is on. You are going to be leaping in full force with everything you've got. You had better warn mommy and daddy to hold on for the ride because this little chicken stops for no one.

Mom and Dad - Enjoy your first date out without little "Pitou". I am sensing you will want to rush back in a hour or so. Even if it's just to pop your head in to peek at your little "mignon". Go ahead. Enjoy both.

Oh my God, Michel. Thirty Three? Do you feel old?

I just love those monthly letters to your daughter, Donna.
That will be so interesting for you Margo, when you can read these letters.

What a difference one month makes.

Keep on calling her "ma fille".I love that also, my dad use to call all his 6 girls,"ma fille"
