Brand Name Recognition

I think that I stumbled upon something the other day. The word that Margo has probably heard the most in her short life is without a doubt "Margo." Well, maybe "the" or "a" or "I think she needs her diaper changed" may technically have registered more occurences, but in terms of substance, Margo has it in the bag.

That said, until a day or two ago, she didn't respond to her own name, so it came as a surprise when she was looking away and I called her name and she turned to look at me, or more specifically, my lips and goatee (she doesn't get the big picture all the time).

I then devised a scientific experiment on the spot (it's all right... I have a Bachelor of Social Sciences... I'm a professional) by getting Donna to turn Margo's face away from me, and called out random words in the same tone to see if she responded to any. Calling out words like fishpea, pumpkin seed, polka foot, Samsung, Neil Diamond and buckshot yielded nothing -- no interest on Margo's part -- but calling out her name made her turn, until she got bored of the experiment and decided to play a rousing game of Kick Papa in the Throat. (score: Margo, 8, Papa, 0).

For the record, she did stir at a few non-Margo words. Returning to the scientific basis of the experiment, one could deduce that these words would therefore be natural fits as nicknames for Margo. So, without further ado, I give you: Grilled Cheese LaDouce.
