Test the Nation
Our little girl is getting to be a conscious, thinking little human being.
We're catching her doing things that aren't just feats of strength. Sure, having her lift herself to standing is cool, but we're noticing that she's interacting with us a little. She sometimes repeats
hand movements from a song Donna learned at Mother Goose. Donna, who has been doing the sign language sign for "milk" whenever she feeds her, has noticed that she may be doing a sort-of, kind-of version of the sign while she's sucking. And just tonight, after an hour of not wanting to be awake, she finally got happy when I layed her down and started babbling. So I babbled back to her. Except that she would repeat the same number of syllables that to me when she babbled back, and similar sounds. Repeatedly. So, of course, I tried to get her to say "papa." "Baba," close. I'm not so desperate to count this as a word, but it's a new development, nonetheless.
It's nice to know that even if she doesn't develop any more from this point, she'll still be able to have a career as a parrot perched on a pirate's shoulder. Or a brown-nosing vice-president.
So, you know what... she's smart. It's a treat to watch her develop physically and mentally.

Wow! Of course, she'll only talk when no one else is around.
I had to learn my lesson the hard way after an embarrasing appearance with UV on Oprah.

Better no talking on Oprah than lots of talking on Springer, says I.
